- David vs. Goliath: The theme for the third season was named David vs. Goliath. The David tribe consisted of underdogs, while the Goliath tribe consisted of overachievers.
- Captains: Each tribe included a returning player from one of the past two seasons as a captain, each representing the theme of their tribe.
- Hidden Immunity Idols: Hidden Immunity Idols were hidden around the camp sites for castaways to find. Upon use, a castaway could negate any votes cast against any specific person.
- Tribe Expansion: On Day 14, the tribes swapped into three new tribes. David was renamed to Voltan and Goliath was renamed to Zipacna, along with a new tribe named Yaluk.

- Though the season is set in Fiji, some staff thought it was Nicaragua, which is why the season logo and tribe names are Maya themed.
- This is the only season to have the vote for the winner end in a tie, forcing Tyrone to cast a vote of his own.
RECEPTION[]
Season 3 of the TRR series was one of the first to adopt the David vs. Goliath theme, just a couple months after the real season ended. Fans and castaways liked the improved terrain and Tribal Council set, but some criticized how much lag there was in the server. Not many applied for the season, but the audience was mostly pleased the final cast, which included two returning players, as they fit their tribe well and provided many entertaining moments, and shocking moments, including Madi's rock out, and three people idol'ed out in a row. In the finale, fans believed Ariana was going to win, but it stunned everyone when the votes tied, forcing Tyrone to choose the winner, Ape, who everyone thought would be a runner-up.
For the castaways, it was not all sunshine and rainbows. Shortly after being revealed, some of the castaways were not happy with some of their tribe mates for reasons outside of the game; this led to intense amounts of drama on both tribes, lasting for most of the game; soon, it got too personal for some players, and Shangela dropped out and was evacuated for that reason alone.
Meek gave the season a positive review, seeing it as a big improvement over Fiji and Panama. He enjoyed the cast and the new build quality, but he felt the personal attacks went too far.
